Woman and Deer Hand-Painted Portrait Stone

Chitra picks stones for their shape first. A stone that already leans one way becomes a woman turning her head; a rounder one becomes a face at rest. The painting is then worked around the curve so the composition only resolves from one angle.

The range covers a woman with a peacock in her hair, a face asleep beneath a peacock feather, a woman with a deer at her shoulder, a mermaid, Shiva in blue and gold with the crescent and trident, Radha with her flute, and a bearded contemporary portrait.

Painted in fine acrylic and sealed with a satin varnish. Every stone is a single piece — there is no second one like it, and once a design sells it is gone.

• Materials: Natural river stone, artist acrylic, satin varnish
• Dimensions: Approx. 8-12 cm across, depending on the stone
• Care: Dust with a soft dry cloth. Display indoors, away from direct sunlight.

Handmade in small batches by Chitra in Dehradun. Because every piece is made by hand, small variations in colour and finish are part of the work.

Dispatched from the studio within 3 to 5 working days. Most pieces are made or finished to order, so please allow a little longer during festival weeks.

Fragile items - resin trays, relief plates and glass candles - are wrapped in tissue, bubble wrap and a rigid outer carton.

If a piece arrives damaged, send a photograph within 48 hours of delivery and it will be replaced or refunded in full.

Because most work is one of a kind or made to order, we cannot accept returns for change of mind. Do ask any question before ordering - happy to send more photographs.

Everything here is worked by hand in small batches. Colour, grain, bloom placement and the way resin or ink settles will differ a little from the photographs.

These differences are the record of the piece being made rather than moulded, and are not treated as faults.
